Survey The mission of the Arizona Geological Survey is to inform and advise the public about the geologic character of Arizona in order to foster understanding and prudent development of the State's land, water, mineral, and energy resources. The first two-team facility built in the country, this complex is still thought of by many as the premier baseball facility in the country. Sports & Tourism Authority The Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority is a Municipal Corporation dedicated to enhancing our economy and our community's quality of life through the development of professional and amateur sports facilities, the attraction of entertainment, sporting, and business events, and through tourism promotion. The Arizona Tourism and Sports Authority (DBA the Arizona Sports & Tourism Authority or AZSTA) was created through an Act of the State Legislature (SB 1220) and referred to the voters of Maricopa County (Proposition 302), which was approved by the voters on November 7, 2000. It was the responsibility of the AZSTA to oversee design & construction and now to own and operate the University of Phoenix Stadium where the Arizona Cardinals play their home games. The AZSTA is also responsible for distributing public funds generated by an increase in the tax on hotel beds and rental cars to additional stakeholders identified in Proposition 302, namely, youth and amateur sports, tourism promotion and Cactus League baseball. The AZSTA is overseen by a nine-member board of directors, all of whom are volunteers and appointed by the Governor, the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House. The taxes (in Maricopa County) began to be levied on March 1, 2001 and will end on February 28, 2031. Car Rental Surcharge - 3.25%, Hotel Tax - 1%. |

Box, the founder of Jack in the Box, announced recently that he has founded another potential dynasty, although this one won't serve you breakfast. They're the Carnivores, Pro Football's newest team. While the move into Pro Football surprised most of the media, Carnivores Assistant GM Carl Hogie saw it coming from way downfield. "He's a purist at heart," said Hogie. "He likes hamburgers, so he opened a few restaurants. He likes GTO's, so he bought one. And he likes football, so he got himself one of those, too. The team, I mean. Not just the ball." |
