The roots of what has become the thriving
community of TrainNet.org go back to early 1986
when Doug Pratt, manager of the CompuServe ModelNet Forum, opened two message
boards - one for model railroaders and one for railfans. Over the next
three years, these message boards proved to be wildly popular and were "spun
off" (on 1 February, 1989) to a new forum called TrainNet,
which for the next twelve years was a busy and lively gathering place for
railroad and railway fans, modelers and employees.
CompuServe (now owned by Time Warner, Inc. and operated by it's AOL division) closed all of it's "hobby" forums in the late 1990's and early 2000's, so on 1 November,
2001 the TrainNet Forum was integrated into TrainNet.org.
The site has a full set of message boards, a collection of over 3,000 railway
photos and more than 2,500 reference files. There are also weekly moderated conferences
for residents of Europe (on Sundays) and North America (on Mondays). TrainNet.org,
whose Staff and Users live, work and play on every continent on the planet,
is the site on the web for model railroaders, railfans and railroad/railway
employees.
If you like trains, TrainNet.org is the
place!
